your song today: Space Oddity – David Bowie

I’ve always been fascinated by this song. How strange, and I mean, it is Bowie after all, but this is great on such an epic scale that I do believe Elton John ripped this song off completely with Rocket Man (this is only my opinion, but there are rumours that Bowie also believed this because he used to shout “Oh Rocket Man” when performing this song live…)

I also found a wonderful earlier version of this song for you to check out. (Bowie’s original intent – apparently the producer had a hand in creating the final version – with none other than Rick Wakeman (from Yes and who composed the great instrumental Journey To The Center Of The Earth and more) playing as session musician in this song.)

I’ve included all of these as a special Friday treat… enjoy!

And also – as a triple bonus, I include the astoundingly cool Seu Jorge’s version. If you love Wes Anderson as much as I do, you will know that Jorge performs adapted versions of numerous Bowie hits during the entire film, The Life Aquatic wit Steve Zissou. Love!

your song today: Blood of Eden – Peter Gabriel and Sinead O’Connor

This is an incredibly powerful song. Peter Gabriel will always be a genius, not only because of his formidable music, but also because of his stellar collaborations with great artists (Sinead, Kate Bush, Youssou N’Dour to name a few). Please avert your eyes when you play the clip though, or if you have the song at home, rather listen to it on your own stereo without the mutilation that is this video. The only good thing about this video is beautiful Sinead O’Connor!

This song really is epic in its progression. It tells a story. So turn up the volume and enjoy!
