your song today: Green Onions – Booker T. & The MG’s

This is a real groovy song. I’ve had this song on every 60s mix I’ve ever made. Luckily (and sadly only recently) I was fortunate enough to hear more of their stuff on my iTunes Network at work. Well done to the girl that had it in her playlist, I am now fully committed to aquiring more of their music. Literally all of their songs are just great – and it makes for great driving music!

Might I just say about this video.. If you never actually watch the videos on this blog, make this the one that you actually do. I absolutely and irrefutably should have lived during the 60s. This is the coolest stuff since the Internet! I love it so much, I’m officially declaring this the 60s weekend…more swell hits to follow…

your song today: John The Revelator – Gov’t Mule

My, but this is a folk song if there ever was one. And it has so much soul! This is one of those songs that is just part of American history, it’s been covered by so many bands, but this has to be my favourite version, apart from the original by Blind Willie Johnson – it’s one of my favourite songs to sing to. I love the subtle banjo (listen to the recorded version) and his voice is just incredible. I wish I could see this live one day!
